As though any of you gave a rat's behind...

So, most of you are aware that I was laid off (for the second time in about 4 months) last April. It was a harrowing 3 weeks, but thanks to the help of my brother and some very generous clients of his, the BYU alumni website, and some undeniably divine intervention, we got through it and I am now gainfully employed at Hogan & Associates Construction. It's an excellent company & I'm enjoying it very much. Part of my job involves making an occasional trip to Moab since I'm working on 2 schools & a hospital down there. I drive down with the Project Manager who's a very nice guy but we have little to nothing in common so 97% of the almost 8 hours in the car are spent in silence. I spend some of it sleeping, but a lot of it thinking about pointless stuff. Here are a few items:
  • No male con honestly consider himself a man until he has done 3 things: 1) used a chainsaw, 2) used a wood chipper, 3) thoroughly enjoyed a movie with no worthwhile plot whatsoever but had a lot of things being blown up and/or sweet car chases.
  • My wife makes amazing pizza. That Pampered Chef pizza stone she got was probably the greatest addition to our kitchen since, well, my wife.
  • I do not now know, nor do I ever care to know, how Stella got her groove back.
  • At the risk of having my dude card revoked, I'm going to make a confession. I really enjoy Pride and Prejudice. I like the book, the A&E miniseries, the recent movie with that Elizabeth Swan chick, all of it. There, I said it.
  • The harder all of you drones try to get my wife to read Twilight, the less she wants to. Stop it.
  • I'm currently reading the biography of Spencer W. Kimball. That man was amazing.
  • Although there is a stiking resemblance, Yoda was not patterned after the aforementioned Prophet, Seer & Revelator. For those of you who insist that he was, watch the Empire Strikes Back bonus features.
  • My five favorite movies of all time are, in no particular order, The Fugitive, The Dark Knight, Clear and Present Danger, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (if you don't already understand why, then I'll never be able to explain it), Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. I'm not a Harrison Ford nut, I promise. He's just been in a lot of good movies.
  • Since this is my & Tara's own personal blog, I can say things on it that I won't (at least not anymore) on my family's blog. Like this: I was very much hoping to be wrong about Barack Obama, but so far I'm not. If I hear him say one more time that we can't continue to do exactly what he continues to do, e.g. spend money we don't have, I'm going to put an ice pick through my right eye. Hopefully enough of our nation will wake up to what this man is doing before the next presidential campaign begins, which should be sometime this September. Unless you're John Huntsman Jr - then you're well into it.
  • One last semi-political thing to add - Proposition 8 opponents? You lost. Can you please move on? Heaven forbid we should let the voice of the people rule in a democracy...
  • I'm sure everyone thinks that their wife is the most amazing woman on the planet and that their children are the greatest addition to the human race since the birth of said wife, but they're all wrong. Unless they're me. Which they're not.

OK, that's long enough. Believe me when I say that the only one more bored with this than you is me.

I love it when you post on your blog! But please don't put an ice pick through your right eye! The loss of a partial digit was enough!

Your dude card might be safe in the fact that P & P is not in you top movie selection. However the mention of it puts item three of your first point in jeopardy of being true. It shows a certain depth of character and ATTENTION span the us Hassell men are notoriosly lacking. However, having Hitchhikers Guide on your list is Awesome, nobody in my family gets it and I watch it alone.
Plus, congrats on the new job. sounds like a good one
